How long does an UMD refund take? ›

Maintaining a credit on your account

These refunds are typically processed within 14 days, but always within the term in which the credit appeared. Students will be refunded via direct deposit, if enrolled, or mailed paper check if not.

Payment of Fees

VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards; VISA and MasterCard debit cards; and ACH (electronic checking) payments are accepted. There is no fee for ACH payments.

In the event your account is not settled by the due date, we are required to assess your account with a late payment fee of $10 or 5% of the unpaid balance, whichever is higher. Each month thereafter, a finance charge of 1.5% is assessed to the outstanding balance until your account is paid in full.

Refunds are disbursed every semester, usually after your school's add/drop period. It's important to know that refund checks are not “free” money.

Direct deposit is a way to have student refunds electronically deposited into your bank account instead of waiting for a check to be mailed. Benefits of direct deposit: Receive your refund faster, in approximately 2-3 days, instead of 7-10 business days for a mailed check.

Your servicer will notify you if the IDR account adjustment will erase your remaining loan balance. If you qualify for a refund, expect to receive it within about two months of the loan forgiveness.

Refunds for all types of financial aid will begin 30 days after the start of the semester. You will receive loan funds in two disbursem*nts each semester. First disbursem*nt will occur approximately 30 days after the beginning of the semester.

Even though we issue most refunds in less than 21 days, it's possible your refund may take longer. Also, remember to consider the time it takes for your financial institution to post the refund to your account or for you to receive it by mail.
